About Me
I'm Patrick, an experienced software developer, systems administrator, and technology enthusiast.
I'm currently a Senior Software Development Consultant, but I have worked a variety of roles in the past, including Senior Software Engineer, Systems Administrator, and Site Reliability Engineer. Outside of tech, I was also an assistant English teacher in Japan for middle-school students and a writer for various games media outlets.
Some of my current personal and professional technical interests include:
- Application development, including full-stack web development, desktop, and mobile
- Developer experience tooling and automation
- Game development using the Godot, Unreal Engine, and Unity game engines, as well as libraries like Bevy or SDL
- Security, including both secure software development and infrastructure security
Some of my hobbies outside of programming include:
- Reading books, including retro computing technical books, biographical and historical books, and fantasy/SF
- Video games, with some of my favorite series being: Deus Ex, Metal Gear, Dark Souls, Like A Dragon, and Street Fighter
- Miniature painting and gaming, including Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40K, and Warhammer: The Old World
- Collecting vintage computer hardware and memorabilia, with a particular focus on Classic Macintosh and Apple II systems.
Some interesting facts about me:
- I have lived in a few different countries (Ireland, Japan, China) and states (TX, FL, SC, GA) but hail from the DC metro of MD
- I have a few small pets, including two rabbits and two guinea pigs, as well as two cats; they all somehow get along just fine
- I can speak conversational Japanese and got my first undergraduate degree in Japanese language, but I also studied Chinese as well
Feel free to contact me using any of the methods at the bottom of the site.
